CERAMICS ENGINEER
Franklin Fuel Cells is developing solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) systems for commercialization in the transportation, portable and distributed generation markets. The company has exclusive license to breakthrough technology developed at the University of Pennsylvania which allows the fuel cell to directly oxidize hydrocarbon fuels without experiencing the carbon build-up associated with hydrocarbon exposure of standard nickel / YSZ based SOFCs. The company has a world-class team of entrepreneurial business executives, researchers and scientists, a growing portfolio of proprietary SOFC intellectual property, and has received government awards and developed strategic partnerships to help accelerate commercialization.
We are seeking a qualified candidate to provide technical expertise relating to all aspects of ceramic processing leading to the manufacture of solid oxide fuel cells. Specifically, the candidate will be responsible for selecting materials and developing procedures related to slurry formulations, paste manufacture using 3 roll mills, tape casting, isostatic lamination, binder burn out and sintering, and all associated quality control.
The right person will have hands on SOFC, or related, industry experience and experience with the use of laboratory equipment such as particle size / surface area analyzer, dilatometer, and programmable furnaces. He or she should also be experienced in the use of design of experiments and other statistical methods as they apply to process development and design optimization.
Overall, the candidate should possess strong teamwork, written and oral communication skills, and be able to work within a fast-paced, technical start-up environment.
Desired qualifications: BS or MS degree with at least five years of industrial experience, or Ph.D. with 3+ years of industrial experience.

RESEARCH ENGINEER

We are seeking qualified candidates for the position of Research Engineer. Responsibilities will include the design of single cell and stack test hardware, conducting electrochemical tests and material characterization on prototype cell designs, and developing appropriate testing procedures.
Prior experience in SOFC, or other types of fuel cells, is highly desirable but not necessary. We are looking for candidates with a background in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, ceramic engineering, electro-chemistry or materials engineering.
The following skills are desired:
• Design of experiments and / or Six Sigma
• Heat transfer, structural and fluid mechanics analysis using hand calculations as well as finite element / finite difference methods.
• CAD solid modeling
• Labview programming
Overall, the candidate should possess strong teamwork, written and oral communication skills, and be able to work within a fast-paced, technical start-up environment. We are looking for highly self-motivated candidates that have broad experience in all phases of the design/built/test development sequence.

TEST TECHNICIAN
We are seeking an experienced candidate for the position of Test Technician to assemble and test components, sub-systems and systems of direct oxidation solid oxide fuel cells. Responsibilities for this position will include setting up fuel cell experiments in strict adherence to safety protocols, monitoring and diagnosing ongoing tests, and documenting test results.
Other tasks will include the maintenance of a clean and organized laboratory space area. The ideal candidate should be self-motivated, possess strong teamwork, written and oral communication skills, and be able to work within a fast-paced, technical start-up environment.
Minimum requirements: high school degree or G.E.D. is required.
AAS or BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is desired, with a minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in a laboratory environment.

SENIOR MECHANICAL ENGINEER

We are seeking a qualified candidate who is a self motivated, technical problem solver who can take design responsibility for various aspects our SOFC development program. The right candidate will lead the design of fuel cell stack and single cell test hardware. Tasks will also include prototype fabrication, selection of system components and testing of components, subsystems and fully integrated systems.
The right person will have experience with heat transfer and structural analysis using hand calculations as well as finite element methods. Experience with computational fluid dynamics is desired. He or she must have a strong background in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics and strength of materials concepts, particularly as they apply to fuel cell applications. Experience in Design of Experiments and Design for Six Sigma is highly desired.
Overall, the candidate should possess strong teamwork, written and oral communication skills, and be able to work within a fast-paced, technical start-up environment.
